Position Changes vs. Collateral Changes

A position change tells you about market exposure. A collateral change tells you about the account resources available behind that exposure.

Position exposure

A position event describes observed notional in a market. Isobath records when an account opens, closes, increases, reduces, or flips a long or short position. The before-and-after values show the observed exposure path.

Available collateral

Collateral events describe a meaningful change in available account collateral. An account can add or remove collateral without changing the position event that appears in the same window. That is why collateral deserves its own label rather than being folded into exposure.

Read both together

On a market page, compare the event type, position side, notional delta, and collateral context. A larger position with falling available collateral describes a different account state from a smaller position with rising collateral. Isobath reports the observations; it does not infer the account’s intent.

Use the wallet history

Open the wallet record to see exposure history and collateral history over time. Repeated collateral reductions, for example, are a pattern in the observed record—not proof of liquidation, distress, or a particular strategy.
